I have great pleasure in inviting you to attend Trauma 2017, the 21st Annual Scientific Meeting of the Australasian Trauma Society and the 4th Joint Meeting with the Trauma Association of Canada. The meeting is to be held from 21st -23rd April 2017 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in beautiful, cosmopolitan Melbourne and the theme of the meeting is “Bridging the gaps in Trauma Care: from bench-top to bedside”. We have an excellent group of invited speakers from Australia, New Zealand and Canada. There will be the usual diverse range of current trauma topics covered including: Translational Research, Trauma Resuscitation, Family Violence, Paediatric Trauma, Lessons from the Military, Sporting Injuries, Trauma Surgery, Trauma Radiology, Injury Prevention and Post-Acute Care Issues.

We will also present the 2 Named Lectures, the Gordon Trinca and the Fraser Gurd Lectures, given by Dr Michael Parr (ATS) and Dr Richard Simons (TAC) as well as an interesting debate.

We are also providing some pre-conference workshops which include the following: the Definitive Surgery for Trauma Care (DSTC) Workshop, an Advanced Airway Workshop,  a Simulated Trauma and Resuscitation Team Training (STARTT) Workshop, a Trauma Ultrasound Workshop, a Trauma Nursing Forum and a Trauma Research Forum.

The social events will also provide ample opportunity for conference attendees to meet up with friends and colleagues with a similar interest in Trauma Care in a convivial atmosphere.

I encourage you to attend this annual meeting of the only multidisciplinary trauma societies in Australasia and Canada and hearing from trauma experts from both sides of the Pacific Ocean.

I look forward to seeing you in Melbourne in 2017!
